STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Time to take advantage of what’s left of summer.
Assemblyman Joe Borelli will be hosting two youth events in Staten Island next week, revolving around fishing, canoeing and wilderness preparedness.
Youth fishing
Borelli (R-South Shore) invites children to take in a late August evening at Lemon Creek Park and cast a few rods at peak ocean tides. The free event will be held Wednesday, August 20th, beginning at 4 p.m.
“Not enough children get to experience the joy of reeling in a fish on their own,” Borelli said. “I hope to bring that feeling of exhilaration and pride to many more children on the South Shore this summer.”
Rods, bait, and tackle will all be provided for participants by the Tottenville-based Big City Bait & Tackle, located at 87 Ellis Street.
Canoeing adventure
Borelli will be hosting a canoeing and wilderness education event for Island children in conjunction with the New York City Urban Park Rangers. The event, which spans several hours, will be held at Willowbrook Park, beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 22.
Urban Park Rangers will be on site to instruct participants on how to safely and properly canoe, in addition to providing basic knowledge of wilderness survival. Lunch will be provided for all registrants
Participants may RSVP to either event by e-mail ([email protected]), or by calling the assemblyman’s office and RSVP’ing by telephone (718-967-5194). There’s limited space available at each event.
