Candidate filed required petitions within one day, and posts strong initial fundraising numbers

Within 36 hours of Mayor de Blasio proclaiming the special election for the vacant 51st Council District, Joe Borelli (R- South Shore) has filed nearly double the required number of signatures to get his name on the November 3rd ballot on the “South Shore First” line in the non-partisan special election. The current Assemblyman filed his first volume of petitions shortly before midnight on Tuesday, July 14. He will continue to collect signatures in the event that there are challenges.

Additionally, Borelli will be filing today’s required campaign finance disclosure with just over $57,000 raised, and has several events scheduled in August.

Said Borelli, “I always intended to hit the ground running and now we’ve shown it, literally on the first day. I am extremely proud of the work my campaign volunteers have done over the last 24 hours, and thankful to the tremendous support we’ve received from our neighbors and supporters who will rely on me to bring their fight to the Mayor and City Council. I hope the folks at city hall take notice of the intensity I am bringing to this campaign, because come November, it will be at their front door.”
