About this Petition

When the New York City Council passed legislation to impose a 5-cent fee on plastic bags last year, Council Member Joseph Borelli was a vocal opponent of the measure, and one of the few members who voted against it. He believes that New York City taxpayers already bear enough of the economic burden placed on them by City Hall.

As a matter a fact, Governor Andrew Cuomo was an opponent of the plastic bag tax last year, and even directed the state Assembly and state Senate to intervene.

How ironic is it that now, during an election year where he is fighting for his life to prove his progressive bona fides, Governor Cuomo has proposed and introduced legislation to enact a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags.

Albany may have saved the day last time, but this time Albany dysfunction may leave New York taxpayers with the bill.
