New York City Councilmember Joseph Borelli joined Rafael Pi Roman, host of MetroFocus, to discuss the alarmingly high rates of several different kinds of cancer in particular Staten Island neighborhoods. Those “cancer clusters” may be the result of the operation of a municipal landfill on Staten Island for several decades.

Borelli, who represents the South Shore of Staten Island in the New York City Council, has long requested that the city conduct a health study in the borough to examine the possible connection between the landfill and the high cancer rates. His request was finally approved last year, when Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the city would conduct a health study.
