BORELLI BLASTS CUOMO FOR PANYNJ RULE BREAKING

Assemblyman Joseph Borelli (R,C,I-South Shore) expressed outrage upon hearing the revelation that, for years, Governor Cuomo has been ignoring the law governing the appointment of Port Authority commissioners. The Port Authority’s Board of Commissioners has approved tens of billions of dollars in expenditures and raised tolls, even though New York City did not have its legally required representatives through a circumvention of the law. This raises questions about the legitimacy of the budgets and whether City residents have proper representation.

Said Borelli, “The governor’s failure to follow the law has only perpetuated the notion that the Port Authority does not act in the interest of New York City residents.  It shouldn’t now be surprising why the tolls go up on bridges connecting the City with New Jersey to pay for the agency’s pet projects.  We often wondered who on the board spoke for us, but now we can confirm that it’s less than the amount required. It’s a shame that the City has been cheated out of its legally required representation at an agency which continually seeks to increase the tolls on the bridges that connect it to New Jersey.  All New Yorkers who are now paying a higher toll on our bridges should be outraged.”
